November / December 2018

During November, we visited Kenward Trust in Yalding to have afternoon tea and meet their Alpacas, Pepe and Luigi. The lovely lady there brought them down for us to cuddle and feed. We learnt a lot about the animal and if we had the correct amount of land at Fairby, I would get a couple!! The afternoon tea was delightful with tasty sandwiches, fruit and cheese scones and plenty of little cakes.

We visited Brookside Garden Centre in East Peckham for a quick coffee and cake before walking round their amazing Santas Grotto. The walkways are full of snow, lights, little creatures and outdoor sounds. After this, we couldn’t resist decorating Fairby a bit earlier this year. We made an event of it and had an afternoon of minced pies and coffees whilst listening to Christmas music. The home is looking so festive - ready for Santa.

Michael visited us again and sang his great Reggae music. A lot of residents and staff were up dancing in the lounge and having a thoroughly good time.

Wild Science brought some animals in to see us - which included a corn snake, a tree frog, albino miniature hedgehog. The animals are passed around to those who wish to hold them and learn more about them.

We were again invited to the annual RAF Party in Dartford, where we get to eat, drink, sing and dance. We are so privileged to get this yearly invite, which means so much to us, as its such a wonderful event. In return, some of the cadets will be visiting for our Christmas Party on the 15th December.

Upcoming events:-

Afternoon Tea at the Longfield Academy School - 14th December

Christmas Party - 15th December

October 2018

During October we tried something new - Gala Bingo. It turned out to be such a laugh. After deciding which of the many game to play, we entered the Bingo Hall and found out that we could’t keep up with the Bingo Caller, however, we didn’t let it stop our enjoyment. Not only that but we were then asked to Be Quiet. It was all very serious indeed, which we found very amusing indeed. Needles to say, we didn’t win anything.

We celebrated one of our resident’s 100th birthday with some entertainment during the morning then afternoon tea later on. What a lovely birthday she had amongst all her friends at Fairby Grange.

We enjoyed our monthly visit from the nursery children who fill the lounge with laughter and play. It’s so nice to see everyone getting involved playing with the children.

For Halloween, we decorated the Home and had a scary evening tea. Everyone enjoyed the evening and some dressed up for the occasion.

Events for November

September 2018

Autumn will soon be with us, so we are making every effort to enjoy the last days of sunshine and warmth that September can offer.

We visited the newly refurbished ‘Boathouse Pub’ at Yalding, which used to be called ‘The Anchor’. The pub is set in a beautiful location alongside the River Medway. The staff kindly rearranged the tables for us all and we ate fish and chips, sandwiches and some enjoyed a cheeky glass of wine, whilst watching some boats sail by. We will definitely visit there again.

Debbie braved the roads of London and drove some of us to the ‘Imperial War Museum’. A fabulous day out for our residents, who thoroughly enjoyed looking at the memorabilia of World War I, Families during the War and other War related artefacts. So many memories came flooding back of the bygone years.

On Friday 28th September, Santorini will be singing for us again. I’m sure he will get us all up and dancing again.

Check out our photo gallery of our recent visit to the Imperial War Museum. Mel and Irish look so fetching in their war outfits!!
