Spring 2016

Spring 2016 is finally here, although the wind does seem a bit chilly.

So far this year, we have planted some parsnips in our trough outside and are looking forward to having those with our Sunday roast.

During March our green fingered residents prepared some hanging baskets to hang by our front door.  As it was a bit chilly inside, we transformed our dining room into a large potting shed, so everyone got a chance to plant some pretty yellow flowers into baskets and pots.

We are looking forward to sunnier, warmer weather so we can get outside and clear all the winter plants away and create some new colourful displays.

January/February 2016

January may be a cold and dull month outside, but, not here at Fairby.

We were busy planning themed lunches for the forthcoming months.  Our first lunch of the year was Burns Night. Our chefs served up a delicious 3 course meal consisting of Coq a Leekie Soup, Haggis and Neeps, finishing off with  Mince Tart with Dates and Custard. We had a glass of wine and enjoyed the sounds of Bagpipes playing.

Our new Activities Coordinator, Mel, joined us during January and is busy getting to know all our residents.  Mel has already planned lots of new activities, aswell as organising projects that all our residents can be involved in.

February has certainly kept our chefs busy.  We celebrated Chinese New Year with a 3 course chinese meal.  Our dining room was decorated with lanterns, chinese dragons and table decorations. 'Gong Hey Fat Choy' - as the Chinese would say.

Valentines Day - what a lovely day this was.  Not only did our chefs lay on a fine lunch, but we were serenaded by Santino on his guitar.  We enjoyed a glass of wine and ended up dipping strawberries and marshmellows in a chocolate fountain.  A little bit messy - but good fun and delicious!!

December 2015

Christmas was a fun time at Fairby Grange.  We held our annual Xmas party where relatives and friends joined us for mince pies and mulled wine whilst being entertained by Sian, a local young singer.  Some members of staff  joined in as backing singers, which certainly brought a smile to everyones faces!!  Our Christmas raffle raised £66 - many thanks to all who donated beautiful and yummy gifts and to those who purchased tickets.

We were lucky to be invited to an 'Airforce Christmas Party' for the second year running.  Our residents were collected by minibus and taken to the party where they enjoyed afternoon tea and dancing with the local Mayer and Air Cadets.

Our dedicated knitters very proudly showed off their knitted napkin ring holders for Christmas Day lunch.

We are all looking forward to the year ahead. We are planning themed lunches, such as Burns Night, Chinese New Year, Valentines and many more exciting events.

Happy New Year.
