February 2018

February has been an enjoyable month of special lunches for Burns Night and Chinese New Year.  Thanks to our chefs for putting on such a supper delicious lunch.

We celebrated Valentines Day with a special lunch, followed by an afternoon of entertainment by 'Miss Vintage'.  We had dance and sing along to her lovely music, whilst eating snacks and having  drinks.  Mel, our activities lady, made special bags and filled them with chocolate hearts and love heart sweets.  There was enough for everyone - even me!

We visited the Singing Club, which is held monthly at a local Community Hall.  This is a great way to meet new people, have a coffee and biscuit and most of all have a good old sing a long.

The days are getting brighter and we are starting to think about our garden and what we can plant this year.  We will certainly get our vegetable trough planted up again - our chef looks forward to cooking what we grow.

Happy New Year - January 2018

Happy New Year !

We have started the year off where we left it - having a fun time together.  This year for the first time, we asked the Members of our local 'Knit & Knatter' to join us for coffee and nibbles.  Knit & Knatter usually meet at the Hartley library every fortnight, but Karen, Fairby's manager, thought it would be nice to hold the meeting at Fairby.  Our snug room was busy with chatting, eating nibbles and knitting.  It was such a huge success.  Our residents have made some lovely friendships from Knit & Knatter.

Our Christmas party was a joyful event and we raised a whopping £310 for our residents fund, which goes some way towards entertainment, outings of our residents choice.  Thank you to everyone who gave so generously on the night.

We celebrated Elvis Presley's birthday on Monday 8th January with music by Storm King.  He sang Elvis songs and we all had a little dance and giggle.

Bertie, our minibus has now been sign written and looks fantastic.  Keep a look out for us !!

November / December 2017

The year is running away with us..... We are now practicing for our Christmas play, 'The Twelve Days of Christmas', which will be performed by our residents at our Christmas party during December.

We have been making props for the production and singing it every day with Mel.  We certainly know the words off by heart now.

Bertie - our own Minibus arrived and we have ventured out twice already.  We love Bertie as we are all together when we go out and about.  We went out to our monthly get together at the  Memory Cafe in Hartley, where we get to have a chat with others over a nice cuppa and a biscuit or two.  We were very lucky to be invited to the Longfield Academy Christmas Event, where some children spoilt us with coffee / tea, sandwiches, cakes and minced pies.  We all sang Christmas carols and had a Jolly time.

During December we were entertained by Dave Smiler - who sang to us at our Christmas party.  It was so lovely to see so many relatives joining us for minced pies and mulled wine.  All donations and raffle money received goes straight into our Residents Fund.  A great party indeed!!  Our production of The Twelve Days of Christmas was such fun - residents and relatives all joined in with holding props, singing and dancing.

Also, during December, we had a visit from a local Concertina Band.  We were amazed by their talent at playing these interesting instruments.

More trips out in Bertie will be organised to Bluewater, local garden centres and more......

Merry Christmas from all at Fairby Grange.
