July 2017

During July, we visited Longfield Academy School, where students held an Enterprise Day to help raise money for 'Dementia Friends'.  We were treated to coffee, tea and cakes which were served to us by the schools students.  We perused the stalls on offer and some residents purchased hand made bracelets and had a go at 'Guess the name of the Teddy'. Some brave students were singing and playing musical instruments - a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon.

We have been invited to the Fawkham and Hartley Church for Strawberry tea, which is very close by to us.  We will be venturing there for  a lovely afternoon.

Another new Event is 'Knit & Natter', which is held at our local library every other Friday.  Some of us will be making our way over there to see what its all about.  Our Local Community Officer, Jackie, loves getting involved with Care Homes within our area.  She has been working with us to help involve us in the Community, as there are so many weekly events taking place.

Upcoming Events

9th August - Afternoon Tea.

19th August - Greek night, hosted by Kyveli, one of our lovely carers.

22nd August - Spa Day with drinks and canapes.

28th August - Take Away Night.

June 2017

Our Summer Fete was held on Saturday 10th June and we raised a fantastic £455.85 on the day.  It was a lovely hot summers day and everyone had a super day.  We enjoyed music from 'Michael', a Reggae singer who performed for us out on the front lawn.  There were various stalls, including; Tombola, Guess the weight of Oscar, our Guinea Pig, BBQ, Games such as Hook a Duck and Skittles, Cake Stall and a Raffle with excellent prizes of; Hobby Craft gifts, Leeds Castle Family Entry for one day, Golf for 8 people at Wrotham Heath, Tea Shop Gift Voucher and A Hairdressing Voucher with Emma, our Hairdresser.

As last years 'Fairby Bake Off' was such a huge success, we held the event again.  The competition is greater this year as we have more entries.  Our lucky judges got to taste all the cakes and decided on which looks and tastes the best.  The lucky winner won a BlueWater voucher.

Residents helped us stick on Raffle tickets for our Tombola bottles and have been busy making sweet cones for our Fete and decorating them with ribbon.

A few of us visited our local garden centre to pick out some flowers for our hanging baskets.  We are also lucky enough to have a Florist residing with us who has created 2 stunning hanging baskets for our Front Door, a beautiful Flower Basket for our Raffle and other pot plants for our garden.

All proceeds from the Fete go into our Residents Fund which help fund forthcoming events and outings.

Our duck eggs arrived and all 6 hatched within 2 days.  See our photo and video gallery to see how cute they are.

Upcoming Events:-

9th July - Betty's 90th Birthday Tea party with Magician.

11th July - Jason will be singing for us.

20th July - Music for health.

Plans for a Greek and Cockney Night are in progress.

May 2017

May has arrived along with the rain..... But we won't let this stop us enjoying ourselves. We went on a boat trip down the Medway River and despite the rain, we enjoyed a sing along, some tasty food prepared by Kyveli and coffee and tea served to us by the crew.

We will be booking another trip during June  - hopefully the rain will have gone by then!!

A few of us popped in to 'The Twig & Spoon' Restaurant at Woodlands Garden Centre for lunch.  A lovely place to visit; we sat outside and enjoyed a ploughman lunch, a glass of wine and ice cream.  Well worth a visit. A delightful Garden Centre with lots on offer including lovely food, great ice-cream and cakes.

Oscar the Guinea Pig - our resident pet, has settled in well and has been familiarising himself with our residents.    See our photo gallery for some cute photos of Oscar meeting our Residents.

We are hoping to get out into the garden to spruce up the boarders and plant some fruit bushes this year.  There's nothing better than eating home grown produce.

Upcoming events in May / June

Motivation will be visiting us again.

Music for Health - a morning session of movement to music.

Boat Trip - Meandering down the River Medway with a picnic.

June - Annual Summer Fete - lots of stalls and fun things are being planned, along with the return of the Fairby Cake Bake Off.
