First we would like to say a big thank Waitrose in Longfield.  They have supported Fairby well over the last few years by supplying our cakes for the Garden Parties in the summer.  They also run a community charity where you collect a green disc when you do your shopping and they have three local good causes a month that you can put your disc to.  Fairby was there back in the summer and Waitrose gave us a cheque for £130 for the residents fund.

Help for Heroes

Thanks to everybody who attended the meeting for Help for Heroes.  We had a lovely evening discussing different ways of raising money.

We decided on a garden tea party on the 21st May 2011, so everybody put it in your diaries.

Two members of staff, Nina & Kyveli, said they would do a sponsored walk from Dartford to Fairby.  If anybody else would like to join them they are very welcome.

Also, one of our very fit residents, Joy, aged 78, and our very young at heart carer, Gladys, aged 87, said that they would do a sponsored walk but not from Dartford!!  We decided on a walk around a football field and Milestone School in New Ash Green has kindly agreed for us to use their field.

We are getting in touch with the Army barracks at Canterbury to see if a few soldiers could attend.  So come on girls there will be good looking men in uniforms.

Mentioning no names I have already heard that one member of staff goes weak at the knees at the sight of men in uniforms.  Can anyone Guess who?

Peter will be having a memorabilia stall where all things military will be on display.  Peter is going to display his and his fathers medals that he is very proud of.  I know Gladys has some RAF memorabilia from her husband Les so if anyone else has anything of interest please let us know.  We will take good care of them as we know they are precious to you.

Greg has kindly donated the tea, coffees for the event but we need some volunteers to bake some cakes for us.

Matinee Choir

We are being entertained by the Matinee Choir singing all your favorite songs on Monday 21st February 2011 at 2pm in the lounge.

Milly Day

Those of us that attended Millys short funeral service at Fairby found it very emotional and moving.  Milly and her family were well loved and we all miss Millys smile and her willingness to join in with everything.  We would also like to thank Millys family for their donation to our Residents Fund.

Everybody at Fairby Grange would like to wish all the residents and their families Health Wealth & Happiness for the New Year and thank you for all your support during 2010.

Steve Erickson entertained us with his songs and stories and everybody enjoyed the Christmas Party. The mince pies & mulled wine went down well as did the sherry.

We were pleased to see the Reverend Jim Fletcher he handed out the Christingle Oranges and said a few words explaining their meaning.

Having the party at 7.30pm went down well as many more family members attended and we would like to thank them for their support to the resident’s fund.

The raffle was well supported & I would like to thank Doris James & Betty for decorating the prizes so nicely.  We managed to raise £67 for the residents fund.

We would like to welcome Irene Forsyth to Fairby and we hope she will be happy here with us all.

The Halloween party was a success again this year. Everybody thought the display in the reception was great. Thanks to Millie, Doreen, Betty, Peter and Mary for all your “armchair” help.

I loved this horrible little man that greeted us all on arrival.

The staff’s costumes were great. We had witches, the bride of Frankenstein, vampires and a black cat.

The costumes were judged by Christina and she chose Vampire Neil as the winner of a bottle of wine.

Marion & Nina worked hard preparing the supper and it went down well with a glass of wine or two, and thanks to Gladys who came over to help.

It started with a Greek Supper which Kyveli worked so hard at cooking – yes, she was up at 5am!

Christine Mills helped Kyveli in the kitchen, serving up fabulous authentic Greek food, with something for everyone.  It was lovely to see so many family members join us and a big thank you for the donations to the residents fund.

Aim Productions are a touring theatre group and they entertained us with an excellent musical show with song & dance from the 30s & 40s.  John did a brilliant job comparing the show even though he had lost his script. He sang some good Al Jolson songs – but best not to mention his jokes!!!

Everybody enjoyed themselves especially Peter who joined in with all the fun.

Rose’s son Trevor was often seen rolling on the floor laughing.

We would like to give a big thank you to all the staff, residents, their family and friends that the Garden Party and Fairby Grange was a huge success, despite the odd shower.

Many weeks and long evenings had been spent by our staff preparing for this event, involving many residents all keen to help.

The appearance of ‘Elvis’ brought delight to us all as he performed all the old favourites that we all know.

Our teas and cakes, kindly donated from Waitrose, were again very popular.

As well as games for visiting children, the stalls, this year took record takings, with all proceeds going into the residents fund.

We would also like to say thank you to the many local, small businesses and larger companies who all contributed excellent prizes for the main Raffle and the Tombola stall.

This year we were honoured to welcome as our guest, the Conservative Member of Parliament for Dartford, Gareth Johnson, who lives nearby.

As this is a very popular event for the residents at Fairby Grange, plans for the 2011 Garden Party are already underway.

It is set to grow, as we add more information about our services, rates, activities and many other aspects of Fairby Grange.
